This content is the third installment in an interview series with the 2020 Target Tech Accelerator cohort. Participating companies are sharing, in their own words, details about their innovative companies. All interviews have been conducted by the Target Tech Program Management team.

Meet LimeLoop.

Tech: When meeting someone new, how do you explain what LimeLoop does?

Ashley: We are replacing those empty single-use cardboard boxes piling up at your home with our smart, returnable packaging.

Tech: What makes you most excited about working with Target Accelerators?

Chantal: Knowing is good, but real impact happens when knowledge is shared. The ability to work with Target allows for shared experience around logistics, technology, and marketing from one of the most prominent retailers.

Tech: How did you know when it was time to consider going through an accelerator experience?

Ashley: A data-driven smart supply chain is more critical than ever to ensure individuals, businesses, and medical professionals have access to daily essentials, without the waste. While e-commerce deliveries were already on the rise (250% YOY), Covid-19 has accelerated the growth while exposing alarming gaps in our supply chain. Some of the holes include closed sourcing, decreased visibility, minimal robotics, analog security, inefficient resource management, and manufacturing diversification. While at the moment, this is a challenge, it is also an opportunity for all of us to learn and evolve the current system and collaborate on designing world-class solutions for sending and receiving goods. The Target Accelerator specifically caught our attention due to a like-minded vision on the future of retail and the importance of collaboration to achieve it.

Tech: What has surprised you about yourselves as your business has grown?

Chantal: LimeLoop came to fruition based on a passion for three core values; people, place, and product. The team’s focus on relentlessly putting all people first and developing a product that positively impacts the place we live is not as surprising as it is inspiring.

Tech: Who has been instrumental in supporting your idea and why?

Ashley: Investors, advisors, colleagues, friends, and family are all instrumental in supporting LimeLoop’s vision of shipping that makes sense. From the team at Toad & Co, LimeLoop’s first customer, who’s a dedication to sustainability is relentless, to all of our investors who roll up their sleeves and dig in wherever needed and to friends and family who pop in with words of wisdom to a meal for those late nights.

Tech: As a business owner/founder, how are you functioning today that is different than how you were functioning 6 months ago?

Chantal: The core values are the same, but the growth alongside the vision has excelled. The growth continues to validate and evolve the company’s vision to a global solution to increase the retailer’s double bottom line.

Tech: What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs who are navigating this current environment?

Ashley: Simplify and stay focused on building a product that continues to provide a real need today and in the future.

Tech: Where do you see yourself and your business 6 months from today?

Chantal: Retailers, carriers, fulfillment centers, and consumers will start to notice an alternative to single-use shipping. The recognition will lead to a household name and eventually, merely the way we ship, leading to a brighter future for many generations to come.
