This content is the fourth installment in an interview series with the 2020 Target Tech Accelerator cohort. Participating companies are sharing, in their own words, details about their innovative companies. All interviews have been conducted by the Target Tech Program Management team.
Tech: When meeting someone new, how do you explain what Divert does?
Ryan: Divert reduces waste by moving food from farm to shelf faster and fresher.
Tech: What makes you most excited about working with Target Accelerators?
Ryan: Being able to understand the specific problems Target faces in the very competitive market of fresh food retailing.
Tech: How did you know when it was time to consider going through an accelerator experience?
Ryan: Building a product has limitations when done in a lab. Having access to individuals who can help question and refine a product offering that solves specific problems is a major advantage in development.
Tech: What has surprised you about yourself as your business has grown?
Ryan: Our team’s drive to learn more and move faster.
Tech: Who has been instrumental in supporting your idea and why?
Ryan: This idea is the creation of many individuals. Specifically, for me, my wife. She buys and grows our food and is not afraid to let me know when a retailer is overing sub-par produce!
Tech: As a business owner/founder, how are you functioning today that is different than how you were functioning 6 months ago?
Ryan: As a leadership team we continue to empower individual employees with autonomy and the freedom to fail.
Tech: What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs who are navigating this current environment?
Ryan: Understand the problem you are solving and why your solution is the right one. Be your biggest critic.
Tech: Where do you see yourself and your business 6 months from today?
Ryan: Delivering results to our pilot customers that help them achieve the mandates outlined Champions 12.3.
